Freelance Poem- Big Daddy and Sleeping Daughter

She speaks in quiet words,
because anything too loud will be akin to poison
on her ears.
She cannot see,
but words paint pictures
and she wishes she could be blind to them too.
They come in too many colors
too many flavors
some are as gentle and sweet as her voice
others are too loud and burning hot that they bring her to tears.
The memories hurt just like the words;
they need to die.


He has lost his voice,
but things are still okay because
actions are louder than words.
It is she who tilts her head up,
eyebrows knitted in fear and concern,
and says those words.
For him, it is like being set free.
Set free to protect the thing that means most to him.
It is just them in their world,
a quiet, quiet world.
If anything or anyone gets noisy
they shall be stopped
by his hands.


They walk side by side
away from a noise-maker.
They make not a sound more;
just as it should be for
the Sleeping Daughter and her Big Daddy.
